Support a Misfit Artist: Ethan Covey
I met Ethan right around the time I was doing FluxBuddha at the Rubin Museum. I needed a photographer who was not only willing and able to shoot the various performance art events that were spread across all six floors of the museum, but one who was also crazy enough to do some late night ”guerrilla photography” in the NYC subway. When I asked Ethan if he was into that kind of thing, his eyes lit up and I knew I had the right guy.
All the performance art events at FluxBuddha were amazing, but there was one in particular that I really wanted him to capture. In my haste I never fully debriefed him, but like all things Psychedelic Sangha, Ethan just knew…
Michael Prettyman was doing a meditation performance where he was sitting, naked, meditating in a nook at the museum. To make it even more wonderfully weird, every few minutes he would erupt into these volcanic screams—terrifying many of the passers-by. Ethan intuited this and jumped in to capture this perfectly timed image of a poor woman having her wits scared out of her by the primary scream.
So without further ado...
Our next Misfit Artist for the Quarantine is photographer and Psychedelic Sangha co-founder Ethan Covey.
You’ll find a treasure trove of Ethan’s photography on his website. Ethan works mostly with film, preferring analog photographic techniques. And when he’s not shooting performance art events you’ll find him taking pictures of landscapes, models, rock stars and anything beautiful.
Feel free to contact Ethan via his website or Instagram to work with him or purchase prints.
